Business in a Box (BiB) is an innovative business training programme developed by Ngāti Pūkenga to meet the needs of its people. This programme is for anyone who has aspirations to own their business and previous business experience is not necessary. BiB empowers its participants to identify a viable business idea and gives them the tools and support to turn this idea into a profitable business.
BiB is focused on enabling whānau to startup online businesses as they can require less startup capital (this reduces the risk) and this means access to a global marketplace. BiB uses internationally recognised frameworks such as Lean Startup that lower the risk of business failure and is used by entrepreneurs all over the world.
The goal of BiB is to turn as many people as possible into business owners and was created in response to tribal goals developed as part of the Sustainable Economies research completed in 2013. More specifically, by 2020 BiB aims to:
Increase household incomes of participating whānau by 50%
Create a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship
Ngāti Pūkenga has designed a unique business training programme for its people and has achieved the following:
People trained on the first important steps to starting an online business
Ideas generated at three innovation workshops
Promising businesses identified and recommended to startup
How can you get involved?
BiB recently received funding to improve elements of the programme as well as develop a coaching model (i.e. design a model that will support participants as they startup their businesses) and identify a financially sustainable business model that will enable the programme to be rolled out widely.
The next phase of BiB involves testing a market leading affiliate training programme. An affiliate is anyone who markets another's products in return for a commission. This generally involves directing potential buyers to the merchant's website in the hope they will buy and the affiliate will receive a commission. To be clear an affiliate is an online business.
An affiliate business model is low risk as it doesn’t require the owner to buy or manage stock or have physical space (i.e. shop front, warehouse etc). The main skill an affiliate business owner must have is to understand online marketing, however there is a wealth of excellent resources and training programmes that can demystify internet marketing and make this type of business accessible to anyone if they put their mind to it.
BiB has identified an excellent affiliate training programme called Wealthy Affiliate and is making it available to individuals who want to learn about internet marketing and ultimately setup an affiliate business. These individuals will have support from the BiB team as they learn the programme and startup their own affiliate business.
BiB is currently running a programme. We have a cohort of motivated and talented people who are learning about affiliate marketing and starting up their businesses. This programme will be running until July 2017.
More information about the current programme can be found here
Do you aspire to be a business owner? Do you want to earn additional income each week? Do you want to learn how to start an online affiliate business? Are you committed, hardworking and a team player? Do you have access to the internet and a computer/laptop? Can you start working on a business now? Can you contribute a small amount of $$ to startup your business? If you answered ‘yes’ to these questions then the BiB team wants to hear from you!
We’re looking for talented individuals who want to learn about affiliate marketing and work towards starting up an affiliate business. In February 2017 we’ll select two people (from our cohort of 10) to provide intensive coaching and support until end of July 2017. We'll be looking for two people who have made solid progress towards their business, are committed, have a hunger to learn and want to support others to succeed.
Once you register more information will be provided on how to get started.
BiB will cover costs of the training and coaching, however, after the initial 'Getting Started' phase in Wealthy Affiliate, participants are required to cover a few startup costs to ensure skin in the game. These are estimated to be less than $100.00 over the first couple of months and include subscription costs for the training programme, domain registration (buying your website address), website hosting and subscribing to an email marketing platform.
Have access to the internet and laptop/computer/tablet.
Dedicate a minimum of four hours per week. Note it is possible to generate income after only a few weeks if you put additional time and effort into it.
Be able to start learning and working on starting up a business from now until July 2017 (assuming you are one of the two people selected to continue)
Join and participate in weekly coaching calls (these will be online so no travel required)
Cover startup costs (domain registration / hosting etc) estimated to be less than $100.00 in the first two months
Participate in a BiB workshop held in Auckland or Tauranga in February 2017 to support BiB in designing its coaching model (BiB will cover travel costs to the workshop)
Bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to this process
Support your fellow participants in their journey
Introduce you to a market leading affiliate training programme
Support you as you learn and strive to start your own affiliate business (coaching costs covered by BiB)
Give you the opportunity to develop new skills, knowledge and networks you can use beyond this training
Empower you to become a business owner
It is our goal to see you start your own affiliate business and earn income as soon as possible!
